Villa Claudia Hotel Cannes
We selected this hotel for the garden more than the address: a leafy courtyard and...
Ten minutes' walk from the Croisette, in a residential pocket of Cannes most visitors never see, La Bastide de l'Oliveraie sits inside five thousand square metres of garden planted with olive trees that predate the hotel by generations. The building takes its cues from the bastide, the traditional Provençal country house, rather than from any beachfront hotel template, and that choice shapes everything that follows: a slower pace, a genuine garden to walk through, and rooms that open onto terraces instead of corridors. Green Key certified for its environmental practices, it is as much a retreat as it is a base for the Croisette, and the two roles rarely compete.
We were drawn to La Bastide de l'Oliveraie for the olive grove itself, a genuine five-thousand-square-metre garden that few Cannes hotels can offer this close to the centre, and for interior designer Elisabeth Mione's treatment of the thirty-two rooms, which mixes traditional Provençal furniture with soft colour rather than defaulting to generic boutique neutrals. The rooftop spa, with its balneotherapy pool and sea-and-hill views, is the kind of detail that turns a stopover into a stay: guests come up from the Croisette and end the day somewhere quieter, with a view instead of a crowd.
The hotel sits in La Californie, a hillside residential quarter a ten-minute walk from both La Croisette and rue d'Antibes, close enough for the beach and the shops but far enough to escape their density. Cannes's train station is about a kilometre away, manageable on foot or by a short taxi ride, and the Royal Golf de Mougins sits roughly ten kilometres inland for guests travelling with clubs. Nice airport is around thirty kilometres by road. The trade-off for the garden setting is distance from the Palais des Festivals, a fair exchange for travellers who would rather return to olive trees than a hotel corridor at the end of the day.

The wellness area runs to about a hundred and fifty square metres on the ground floor, built around a sauna, a Turkish bath whose ceiling is set with small lights like a night sky, three treatment rooms and a fitness room. Upstairs, the rooftop adds a second layer: a jacuzzi, a balneotherapy pool, and a sun terrace that looks out over the sea on one side and the hills on the other. A heated pool runs from April to October, with an additional outdoor pool for guests who prefer to stay at garden level. Few hotels this close to central Cannes carry this much wellness infrastructure.
Across seven room categories, from Classic to Privilege and Junior Suite, the sizes run from a compact sixteen square metres up to forty-six, and most open onto a private terrace or balcony rather than a shared corridor view. Several categories include a small kitchen area with a Nespresso machine, useful for a longer stay or a quiet breakfast away from the dining room, and the Junior Suite Terrace can add a private jacuzzi on request. Two Superior rooms are fitted for guests with reduced mobility, and Privilege Communicating rooms suit families or small groups travelling together.
